Marjorie Taylor Greene Harasses David Hogg
The congresswoman’s behavior encompasses a larger part of how Republicans become polarizing: by attacking liberals at every turn — no matter how low they need to go.
Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene isn’t a stranger to controversy. She once supported the execution of various Democratic leaders in a series of likes and shares on Facebook.
In 2018 and 2019, prior to her run for Congress — Greene liked one post that said “a bullet to the head would be quicker” to remove House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She also shared far-right posts in support of former President Donald Trump. In one of those instances, Trump is imagined to be embroiled in a battle against a sinister coterie of Democrats and celebrities who abuse children. She’s well acquainted with Trump’s conspiracies of a “deep state” which was tearing apart Democracy along with QAnon conspiracies.
Her other conspiracies included instances of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.
After her posts and comments resurfaced, Kevin McCarthy, who is superficially the House Republican leader, spoke about her behavior via a spokesman. On Wednesday, the spokesperson told Axios, “These comments are deeply disturbing and Leader McCarthy plans to have a conversation with the Congresswoman about them.”
The few weeks into her stint in Congress has been enveloped by a myriad of controversies as she also firmly planted herself in the midst of “Stop The Steal”. Democratic Rep. Jimmy Gomez called for her expulsion from the House. Her indiscretions include her role in fanning the flames of the insurrection. Although Greene condemned what happened at the Capitol — she falsely accused “Antifa/BLM terrorism” and Democratic politicians of stoking the insurrection.
Greene was also discovered to have liked a post which claimed that the massacre at Stoneman Douglas was a “false flag” operation.
A video surfaced of her attempting to goad gun-control activist and Stoneman survivor into reacting to her taunts just weeks after the Parkland shooting. The video was uploaded by Fred Guttenberg who’s daughter was slain in the shooting at Stoneman.
And all of this was just the tip of the iceberg as far as conspiracies went. But her attack on Hogg, a then-teenager who tragically went through the horrific event of s a mass shooting at his school, felt like it should be the straw to break the proverbial camel’s back.
Hopefully it is.
Her attacks on David Hogg isn’t shocking, but it’s happening during a paradigm shift
Greene’s actions are deplorable, but it’s the oldest trick in the book for Republicans.
Tucker Carlson, for example, is a master at being a deplorable. While he attempts to stray away from the conspiracy theory territory; he’s absolutely not shy to lie on camera. Lies and “whataboutism” are the foundation of conservatives e.g. Fox News, QAnon, Proud Boys, Donald Trump, etc. They are all personalities and groups cut from the same cloth.
Greene, John Hawley and Ted Cruz are people who should resign. They’ve been carrying on with conspiracies and support for Trump far too long.
Thankfully, the cracks are beginning to give away to the ground they’ve chosen to die on.
